The Arizona Paint Horse Club
(APHC) is proud to announce the 2008-09 American Junior Paint
Horse Association Youth Member of the Year, Kathryn Tekulve,
APHC Youth President.
Kathryn has been an
American Junior Paint Horse Association (AjPHA) National
Director for the past four years, and is now serving her
sixth term as an Arizona Paint Horse Club regional officer,
and second year as regional Youth President. She enjoys
participating in the World Show Youth Team Tournament, with
2009 marking her 7th year representing Arizona in Fort
Worth, Texas. Since 2003, Kathryn has joined her regional
youth club in projects to benefit charities such as The
Make-A-Wish Foundation, The American Red Cross, and The
American Cancer Society, in addition to Girls Scouts of
Arizona, local 4-H groups, and various equine organizations.
Together with her youth club, she has promoted the American
Paint Horse through donation drives, promotion booths, and
volunteering.
Outside of Paint horses,
Kathryn is a member of the National Honor Society and the
Society of Female Scholars. Her community involvement includes
volunteering for the Westside Food Bank and her church.
Kathryn was chosen for the
AjPHA’s highest youth honor by a national youth association that
is comprised of over 6,000 members. Youth Member of the Year
candidates are nominated by their regional club, and their
applications and portfolio examples are reviewed by a
five-person committee during the APHA Annual Workshop. The youth
member is judged in five areas: regional and national club
involvement, additional horse-related activities and volunteer
work, community activities, participation in promoting the
American Paint Horse, and school involvement.
Kathryn was awarded a $500
U.S. Savings Bond and presented with a Gist Belt Buckle at the
2008 AjPHA Year-End Awards, held during the 2009 World Show.
